About the collective
Because the production of critical knowledge is often confined at the margins of university departments, an international network of scholars, be it professors, graduate or undergraduate students can give strength to critical approaches to security. The aim of the website “critical approaches to security in europe” is to help create and support this network as well as to diffuse information about these specific themes and approaches. The collective is composed of confirmed scholars and ph.d. students of the discipline. It’s work has taken various forms. First, c.as.s.e. is a forum for different scholars working critically in the field of security studies to meet and confront their work during the regular meetings / doctoral training schools. These have taken place in Paris (june 2005), Tampere (October 2006) and Odense (November-December 2007).
In addition to the meetings, the collective has so far worked on an innovative and original project. This is the participative writing in a collective piece, “critical approaches to security in europe – a networked manifesto” which was published in Secrurity Dialogue in december 2006. More than 25 authors collectively wrote the article. [link]
Now the c.a.s.e. collective is working on new projects, reflected in the structure of the website. The former website "http://critical.libertysecurity.org" hosted by the Challenge programme was essentially dedicated to relaying new about conferences, call for papers and job applications. The new website continues this activity, providing information about new related to c.a.s.e. But it intends to provide more than this.
c.a.s.e. news will keep up to date information about past and upcoming events related to c.as.s.e.
bibliography follows the past and recent publications either of c.a.s.e. as a collective, either as individual members of c.a.s.e. This will prove helpful for those who want to follow the debated on particular issues.
working papers. Between the presentation of conference papers and the actual publication of research there are a number of difficult steps that can discourage young researchers from publishing their work. The working papers proposes to create a pool of accepted manuscripts and establish direct relationships with selected journals in order to facilitate their publication. This section, is accessible only to potential publishers.
c.a.s.e. memos. the c.a.s.e. memos papers are all accessible and free. They are destined at tackling a problem-solving issue using theoretical tools and methodologies from the c.a.s.e. litterature, nevertheless, they are oriented at policy makers, ngos, associations etc.
ideas in action. this section is destined at providing a scholarly view on contemporary issues in an non academic style. Ideally, articles published in ideas in action find their way in magazines, newspapers or other non academic publications.
