
Job: Junior Program Officer / Researcher (Part-time)

for the Center’s project activities in the field of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) control. Under the supervision of the team leader, the program officer will coordinate capacity-building and research activities in Eastern Africa (in particular in Southern Sudan), and participate as a trainer and researcher in field missions, often working under challenging conditions.Required skills and expertise:
- Advanced university degree (Masters or similar) in a social science or other relevant discipline.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in the development sector, conflict-related advocacy work or in peace research.
- Field experience working in a post-conflict environment, preferably in the Horn of Africa, ideally in Southern Sudan.
- Good understanding of post-conflict recovery and SALW control issues; previous experience in the field of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) would be an asset.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English. Working knowledge of other regional language (French, Arabic) highly desirable. Good drafting skills.
- Previous training experience in a post-conflict setting would be highly desirable.
The initial contract period for this part-time (50% of the ordinary working time) position is limited to one year; an extensions is possible depending on performance and the availability of funding. A conversion into a full-time position is also possible at a later time. Payment will be according to the German public sector pay scale (TV-L), taking into account previous work experience.
