Three Research Consultancies on technologies of profiling

Purpose: to develop a list of contacts in the field of cognitive psychology, science, IT, engineering, and technology studies who work critically on profiling technologies.
Profiling technology:
Technology refers to both (1) technological artefacts such as diagrams, computer networks, scientific data, forms that are filled in and (2) the knowledge and skills required for their use.
Profiling refers to methods of identifying individuals and clustering them in collective categories.
Three priority areas:
- programming data bases holding identity information of individuals with special interest on how the programming clusters categories of individuals
- biometrics and digitalizing of identity information
- the technology of social behaviour profiling [the identification of particular behaviours as suspicious]
Additional areas, which are related to the above:
- the technology of facial recognition
- the technology of finger printing
- the technology of DNA screening
Deliverables:
1. List of names of prominent people working in cognitive psychology, science and technology departments, and IT development who work critically on profiling technologies, with focus on the three priority areas identified above.
List includes:
(a) name, institutional affiliation, contact details, 1 or 2 publications ideally with abstract or electronic version of article
(b) the list needs to contain people from several European countries
(c) the list needs to include also who in the Open University is working on this
2. List of a few journals that are leading sources for following developments in the technology of profiling.
Practicalities
Estimated working time: 10 days
Payment: consultancy contract of £600

Consultancy 2: Assemble List of social scientists (e.g. sociology of technology) and philosophers critically studying technology – including those with a special interest in profiling

Details of research consultancy
Assistance is required in undertaking preparatory research for a workshop on Contesting technologies of 'illegalisation': Irregular migration, security technologies, and political subjectivity to be run by the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance, The Open University.
Objectives:
* The consultant will be required to identify researchers and theorists that are working on security technologies such as visas, deportation, detention, and profiling across Europe
* More specifically, the consultant will be required (a) to identify those researchers working on security technologies in relation to migration, in particular irregular or illegal immigration and (b) to identify those researchers that examine contestations of such technologies by irregular migrants and groups in solidarity with irregular migrants
Output:
* The consultant will be required to compile a short report in electronic format, to include the name, affiliation and contact details of researchers working in the above areas and to include one or two relevant publications (with electronic links and abstract, where possible) for each specified researcher
Requirements:
* Fluency in Spanish, French and/or Italian is desirable
* Familiarity with research dealing with the thematic areas covered is desirable
Details:
* The deadline is negotiable, but the work will be completed as soon as is possible
* The estimated working time is 3 days
* The payment is £300
