The Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG) / Faculty of Social Sciences / Based in Milton Keynes / £29,138 - £31,840 depending on qualifications and experience, Ref: 3541The Faculty is one of the largest providers of Social Science HE teaching in the UK and has established research excellence and international standing in a number of fields. Research within the Faculty is organised in a number of distinctive but related centres of excellence including the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG) and the ESRC Centre for Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC) to which this post relates. The Faculty is seeking to recruit first rate staff who will contribute at the highest level to its strategic priorities, and in particular a substantial and high-impact submission in the next Research Assessment Exercise.

Applications are invited for an Academic Research Fellowship to be held at the CCIG Centre. The Centre undertakes and promotes research, dialogue, and debate that contributes to a critical understanding of the manifold connections between concepts of citizenship, processes of identity formation and practices of governance. RCUK fellowships are prestigious appointments for outstanding early career researchers and provide a five-year appointment for the development of a research programme with low teaching or administrative obligations for the first three years. RCUK fellow moves to a permanent academic post following the end of the contract in one of the departments of the Faculty. You should have a PhD or equivalent in social sciences, a developing but outstanding record of research linking two or more or the Centre's research strands. You will work with the Centre's Director on collaborative programmes.
The closing date for this position is 10 April 2007. Interviews will take place later in April or early May. It is intended to fill this position at the earliest possible date.
