The Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science is a vibrant, small, high quality department offering a full range of degree programmes in Political Science (BSc, MSc, MPhil, PhD). These programmes integrate comparative politics, European Union politics and international relations, while providing students with the opportunity to specialise within this broad context. The programmes are taught in English (the BSc programme partly). Starting from September 2007, the Department will also participate in the interdisciplinary master’s programme “Politics and Law of International Security” which will offer the LLM degree.
The main themes addressed in the teaching curriculum are closely related to the Department’s Research Programme (entitled Multi-Level Governance in Europe and Beyond).
Tasks
The successful candidates will be expected to:
• Contribute to the teaching of the Department at all levels (especially in the field of International Relations (1.2007.00106A) or in Comparative and European Politics (1.2007.00106B))
• Contribute to the research programme of the Department (1.2007.00106B) and take a supervising role in a part of the research programme (1.2007.00106A)
• Support grant applications (1.2007.00106A)
• In addition, candidate A will be responsible for the Department’s share in the interdisciplinary master’s programme “LLM in the Politics and Law of International Security”
Requirements
Vacancy 1.2007.00106A: The applicant must hold a doctorate in Political Science with a specialisation in International Relations. Affinity with, and basic knowledge of, International Law is recommendable. Quality in research must be demonstrated by international refereed publications, teaching experience and quality must be documented by student evaluations. Managerial experience is desirable. The candidate must be fluent in English, and willing to acquire a working knowledge of Dutch within two years.
Vacancy 1.2007.00106B: The applicant must hold (or soon hold) a doctorate in Political Science with a specialization in Comparative Politics and will preferably have an active research profile as evidenced by (refereed, international) publications. He or she is familiar with the field of comparative European politics (including the European Union) and has teaching experience in this field. The candidate must be fluent in English.
Conditions
Vacancy number 1.2007.00106A: The initial appointment is for 2 years, with renewal being possible subject to performance. The appointment will initially be in the rank of Universitair Docent (Senior Lecturer - Assistant Professor).
Vacancy number 1.2007.00106B: The appointment is for a fixed 2 year term and will be in the rank of Universitair Docent (Lecturer - Assistant Professor).
Salary
Vacancy number 1.2007.00106A. Gross monthly salary ranges from € 3.709,- to € 4.761,- (salary scale 12), depending on experience.
Vacancy number 1.2007.00106B. Gross monthly salary ranges from € 3.060,- to € 4.190,- (salary scale 11), depending on experience.
Salary scales are determined according to the collective rules (CAO) of the Dutch universities.
