Mel Gibson was accused by his stepmother, Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson, of assaulting, threatening and spitting, so she requested a restraining order because she fears for her life.
The TMZ website reported that Joye, 78 years of age, asked the police help. She said that she feels her life is in danger. The petition outlines several Gibson incidents, including one incident last May during a family reunion.
Teddy, who married Mel’s father, Hutton Gibson in 2001, said the producer also became aggressive toward her on several occasions.
“Mel acted foolishly and looked like a lunatic. Mel started shouting in my face and he was so close to me. His saliva splattered on my face,” reads the legal document.
After an audio was aired in which Mel Gibson was heard screaming and cursing his former partner, sources close to the actor said that Gibson suffers from bipolar disorder. Sources said that Gibson was diagnosed with this disorder earlier this year.
As reported by the “Radaronline” website, Gibson’s condition was detected during his separation with Oksana Grigorieva in 2009. After diagnosis, the actor began taking medication to control his excessive anger. A source close to Gibson said that while in treatment, Gibson was “more calm and rational.”
After the recording was aired, you can hear what yells and insults Gibson gave to Oksana Grigorieva and screenwriter, Joe Eszterhas. The same source mentioned that Gibson apparently does not take his medicine.
