The feud of 2013 continues to spiral out of control as two people, with very different views continue to hash it out. Sinead O’Connor and Miley Cyrus are publicly fighting over a letter that Sinead sent to Miley after her sex-crazed performance at the MTV Music Awards this year.
Miley’s performance was filled with naked-ness, twerking and a whole lot of tongue. The general public was ‘disturbed’ but Miley got exactly what she was looking for, views, likes, shares and more press than some of the worst events of the year.
Sinead felt she needed to speak out. In her original letter Sinead talked to Miley about the fact that she will be eaten alive by the industry (referring to the guys behind the record labels) and she needs to stand strong and keep her self-respect. Miley responded with a few tweets essentially telling Sinead she was out of line and making fun of her mental issues. Miley referenced Amanda Bynes in her tweet, who is also dealing with mental issues. The first tweet wrote, “Before there was Amanda Bynes.”
Sinead was disgusted with Miley’s reference to mental issues and the feud really started to heat up. Legal action is now being threatened if Miley doesn’t publicly apologize and remove the hurtful tweets. Miley refuses to.
This is when things get interesting. Recently Amanda Palmer wrote an open letter to Sinead O’Connor in reference to her first letter to Miley. Palmer talked about Miley’s ability to be herself and we should be encouraging people to create what we want of ourselves instead of keep ourselves in a box of societal expectations. She also addressed Sinead’s assumption that Miley was being forced to act the way she is…
“Miley is, from what I can gather, in charge of her own show. She’s writing the plot and signing the checks, and although I think it’s tempting to imagine her in the board room of label assholes and management, I don’t think any of them masterminded her current plan to be a raging, naked, twerking sexpot. I think that’s All Miley All The Way.”
Stay tuned for further updates on the feud.
